Broken
dentures are often seen in the dental office on an emergency
basis. In most cases dentures that are broken in one place
are easily repaired by a dentist. However, multiple fractures
are sometimes difficult if not impossible to repair.
One
of the most common mistakes made by people with broken
dentures is to used glue to
repair the denture. While the bond formed between cyanoacrylate
(the substanced used in many of the quick dry glues)
and methlmethacyrlate (the plastic used in most dentures)
is strong, many people do not align the the pieces perfectly.
This often leads to misfitted dentures. Indeed, if a
denture is broken completely in many places it may be
impossible to repair. Broken dentures should always
be taken to a dental professional before any attempt
at home repair is made.
